Beautiful things need space
The new carpentry workshop of Wilhelm Eder
Today, I’d like to give you a brief overview of how and where our carpenters work. While much has already been shared about our cooperage and the craft involved, today I want to focus on the carpentry shop—its origins and development.
About 15 years ago, when our online shop was still in its infancy, the Eder brothers decided to expand the business from Bruchstraße 60 to the parallel street. There, alongside a large warehouse, was also ample space for the craftsmen.
The shipping team shared this hall with the carpentry team, which at that time consisted of just three people who also handled the tasks of the sawmill.
However, it quickly became clear that the additional space was not enough.
The carpentry team grew, and the first coopers joined the company. An opportunity arose to take over the neighboring building of a shipping company—an internal code name for the building became “B52” (named after its house number). Initially overwhelmed by the vast space, the teams quickly expanded. Carpenters and coopers, along with the all-rounders from the shipping department, carried out their tasks side by side.
Over the years, the tasks have evolved. The design and actual construction of barrel furniture and wood processing became more extensive. With these new tasks came new machines, like a CNC milling machine, jointers, and large saws.
But as the carpentry team’s tasks and machines grew, so did those in the cooperage, leading to a search for a solution last year. After all, beautiful things need space.
And so, the circle closes: in the building where, 15 years ago, goods for our barrel shop were prepared, our carpenters now have their own domain. Dark rooms were brightened with windows, dull walls were brought to new life with color, and a warehouse was cleared out to create a cozy break room—of course, all designed and built by the carpenters themselves.
Thanks to the close proximity to the sawmill, we’re even saving resources that were previously tied up in longer transport routes.
By the way, our in-house carpentry doesn’t just build incredibly cool barrel furniture. Our office and meeting rooms also bear their signature style.
Their flexibility, creativity, and above all, craftsmanship leaves nothing to be desired. All of our barrel furniture pieces are custom-made and tailored to the wishes and ideas of our customers. Feel free to contact us and experience our service for yourself!
And be sure to stop by on your next visit! You’ll hardly recognize the old rooms. And if you’ve never seen the old rooms because you’ve never visited us: then consider this your warm invitation!
